Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 14, 2026

1. Our Commitment to Privacy

At myJotup, privacy is not a feature — it is the foundation. We believe you should be able to share notes without surrendering your personal information. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

2. No Accounts, No Tracking

We do not require user accounts, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information to use myJotup. You can create and share notes completely anonymously.

3. Information We Collect

  • Note Content: The text you enter into the editor is stored so it can be shared and viewed. We do not read, analyze, or sell your note content.
  • Note Type: We store whether your note is Plain Text, Markdown, or Rich Text so we can render it correctly for viewers.
  • IP Addresses: We temporarily process IP addresses for rate limiting and abuse prevention. IP data is not stored permanently and is not linked to individual users.
  • Password Hashes: If you password-protect a note, we store a bcrypt-hashed version of the password. We cannot recover or read the original password.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for anonymous usage statistics. We do not use third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or cookies for advertising purposes.
  • API Requests: When you use the public API, we process your request body (note content and settings) and IP address for rate limiting. No API authentication tokens are collected.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Delivering the note-sharing service (storing and retrieving notes).
  • Preventing abuse and excessive automated use through rate limiting.
  • Improving service reliability and performance.
  • Processing API requests to create notes programmatically.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Notes are stored only as long as you choose. If you set an expiration time, the note is permanently deleted from our database once that time passes. Even for notes without expiration, we reserve the right to remove old or unused content as part of routine maintenance. Once a note is deleted, it cannot be recovered. API-created notes follow the same retention rules as notes created through the web interface.

6. AI Features

AI enhancement and formatting features send your note content to OpenAI's API. We do not retain this data beyond the immediate request, and OpenAI's use of API data is governed by their own privacy policies. If you prefer not to share content with third-party AI services, simply avoid using the Enhance and Format features.

7. File Import

When you import a file (.txt, .md, .docx, .pdf), the content is extracted and processed in memory on our server. The original uploaded file is not retained. Imported content becomes a new note subject to the same privacy and retention policies as any other note.

8. Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption, bcrypt password hashing, strict HTTP security headers, and rate limiting. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use password protection for sensitive content.

9. Third-Party Services

myJotup uses the OpenAI API for optional AI features. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for anonymous usage statistics. We do not display advertisements or integrate social media trackers. Your note content is never sold to third parties.

10. Downloaded Content

When you download a note as a PDF, Word Document, or Plain Text file, the file is generated entirely in your browser. No content is sent to external servers during the export process.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Contact Us
